It must be in this backdrop that the seemingly hi-tech sounding CIVIL liability for nuclear damage Bill has to be understood.It is a law sought to be passed in consequence of the Nuclear Treaty signed by our country with the USA.
It is good that the said bill got derailed today in the Lok Sabha.
In its present form it lays a limit on the amount of compensation payable to the sufferers,affected parties [and often times,these would but be legal heirs of deceased victims in a nuclear accident]at a figure of Rs.300 crores[convert this in terms of U.S.Dollars and see the real sum total of upper limit pre-decided as being payable by the 'operator' of a nuclear plant in India.
It says says that the operator would not be liable for any nuclear damage if the incident was caused by 'grave national disaster of exceptional character, armed conflict or act or terrorism '.Imagine a scenario wherein negligence being attributed to the operator himself [without allegation or evidence of act of terror'].
It has incorporated provisions that would enable the government to either increase or decrease the amount of liability of any operator [it isa gateway to lengthy and cumbersome litigation since it is not specific when it could be hiked or lowered] .
Union Carbide Gas tragedy of Bhopal has been a real-time experience for this nation comprising of a largely gullible and often helpless majority because the bills are enacted by those few seated in the haloed floors of the august Parliament .Real expression of concern on such a vital issue cannot be staged through mass rallies by so-called protestors nor can it be ignored if INDIA IS TO SURVIVE IN THE WORLD COMITY OF NATIONS and reach the coverted membership of the U.N.Security Council.
Hence, all right thinking intellectuals and jurists of the country should brain storm with legislators and parliamentarians ,present and past in order to arrive at pragmatic and valid provisions in the proposed Special Law.
A reasoned Act of Reason must not be reprehensible to the good conscience of a peace loving overly populated society as ours .Hence,a serence and better sense should prevail .Parliament should not act in haste and let the country’s people repent at leisure.This is the the need of the hour.

GOD DAMNED MEN ?
God disposes when man proposes .Not the other way .This has become amplified umpteen number of times since times immemorial.Of late, scoops and revealations have brought home the point to the fore. Sadly though the discoveries of escapades and wrongful exploits of criminal mindsets has helped fan the theory of the non-believers that it is right to disbelieve in the existence of God.
God is real .God exists. Unless this truth of human existence be admitted, death cannot be accounted for .No other authority superior to mankind exists in the universe’s order of things .Hence, a supernatural force [call it GOD if you please!]prevails ,always.And,irrespective of whether or not one and all of humanity acknowledges or bows to God.
Idolatory may be reprehensible to the minds of a few .Others more evolved would denigrate the very idea of a God .Stranger then that although idolatory is frowned upon, these very people flock to the cameras and the studios or exhibit their photographs in full make-up and bright fineries.
Godmen is a wrong phrase put up by the loosely minded among the mass media. As is customary ,successive generations merely ape the predecessors. There is never any actual ,real application of mind to understand either the words or the sects of such beings on earth.After all, they too eat, drink ,sleep and the whole lot of physiological actions undertaken by fellow human beings. So, what needs to be understood is that God is a concept relating to the Soul of the being and not concerned with neither body nor form.
If there be no God and all who believe in the existence of a God Almighty are termed,dubbed,clubbed with the likes of phoney’godmen’,then all religions on earth would bear neither justification nor an explanation for their existence.

I could never fathom the fun and exclusivity of dolls and doll-houses being offered especially to little girls,across the world.It has taken all of two decades of public interaction to realize the purpose and intent behind the customary way of looking at things.
For one, there never was the concept of ‘gender-discrimination’ those ancient days .It was just the fact of co-existence of the males and the females of the human species.Secondly,nobody ever complained of the woman staying back at home to be branded the ‘housewife’ whilst the man of the house went out to fend for the family’s livelihood-becoming the ‘house-holder’.Next,technology was conspicuous by its absence leaving no room for the spread of either mass movements nor the concept of ‘equality of woman and man’.
I now seem lost and forlorn in my cry for a re-thinking on the unchecked and unbridled use of freedom of thought,life and liberty by excessively liberated folks who choose to ignore the pleas of the conservative and the tradition-bound mindsets of the disciplinarians.Every ear is deaf it seems ;every mind has stopped its original functioning it appears .All are beset by the mass propoganda unleashed through popular media and in corridors of power.
Whither the concept of human security and security of life?Is marriage no longer an institution?Are womenfolk going to be rid of the harrassments and domestic violence being meted out to them with the mere passage of the bill categorizing them in the legislative sphere?What is required to prevent the dressing up of mannequins and dolls or the conversion of an august house of wisdom into a doll-house?
An ounce of honesty ,a good measure of self-introspection and a whole lot of goodwill for all the women of the country-be they from a rural or urban region;be they literates or illiterates;be they young or old.
Mangled ideas and hasty bills cannot reset lives nor dictate reason into the bad conscience of a whole nation who seem to have been left in a state of uncertainity,confusion and ennui in the name of a people’s democracy.
Acts of preservation are of paramount importance ,not an act of reservation for a few.

WISHING A FISH...!!!
To or not to bite the bait?
So ask the fish,big fish,small fish,bigger fish ,all of them.
They know they are not amphibian creatures nor are they akin to man.
Mankind they know can be very compassionate ,when it chooses them to be.
It is a man’s world after all. No right thinking water-fish would ever dare to leap out of the safety of the deep[even shallower]waters and risk the prospect of ending up on the dinner-table of a big-fry man.
I would forever rate the famous lesson of Bible [teach a man to catch a fish for a living rather than feeding him fish]as one of the apt morals for living.The art of living does not comprise merely of rubbing shoulders with all and sundry or painting spots on a cat’s skin to make it appear a leopard.It has more than the science of make-up ,technology or no technologies…!
So, arise ,awake and stay vigilant all you piranhas ,cat-fish,sharks, whales and the littler sweet ones .Do not become fodder for snarling ‘fish-eat-fish’ carnivores nor those who stalk unsuspecting edibles,irrespective of the prey being molluscs or edible fish.
Stay in your bounds and do not let them befool you into imagining that the boundaries for a woman’s domain have widened with the passage of the so-called Bill.
After all, any reservation fixing a quota will automatically become a constricting noose which restricts your ability to dribble all across the playing field.
And,the Parliament or the Assemblies alone are not arenas where you womenfolk require reservation,recognition and ‘respect’.
Food for thought?

ENABLE ,NOT EMPOWER…!!!
Empowerment of women is the slogan being bandied about by even dynamic females of the human species.I beg to differ.Empowerment is not required;enable a woman.
Be it one’s sibling,spouse or a mere stranger on the street,bills and laws;policies and awards;quotas or reservations would be rendered meaningless as well as impotent unless enablement is a reality.
Allow the girL child to be born.Let the young women have a choice to select their life-partners.Banish the pernicious evil of dowry-harrassment and oneupmanship .Married ladies ,whether housewives or career-builders ought to be let to rest atleast once in a while.Widows and aged womenfolk ought to be given preference from among the supposedly ‘reserved’-portion allocated for womenfolk.
A thing well begun is half well completed they say.Euphoria and mirages galore in a woman’s lifetime-markedly more in our society.
Therefore,be not led or misled by the cries of hurrah or the gaiety being marked across the nation in the backdrop of steeply risen prices of essential commodities.
Where a woman be respected and revered ,such a society shall be a happy and prosperous one.A household-unit is the place to start this campaign,not the high security well of the Parliament.Empower the lady of the house .Enable HER empowerment.And,you would but be a mighty drop in the vast ocean of human kindness,compassion and understanding.
One would naturally do well and hasten to add the necessary caution that not all females are women eligible for such an honourable treatment - or else there would be no MCP in existence .Extreme elements of nature render certain womenfolk to be dreaded by even other women in the society[No,am not referring to the soap-operas of saas-bahu drama but to real life characters who make life miserable for entire lifetime.Many a client testifies to this sad fact .
All said,we ought to restore the pristine gory of our nation whose tradition and culture carried the ethos of respect for woman - not the pathetic display of revulsion or disdain for their concerns.

MOTHERS OF NATION…!!!
Euphoria has been the blessing of mankind to womanhood.Man is born and made ,from the umbilical cord of life to the end of a domineering stint on earth.
No woman on the face of the planet has ever been a truly blessed being -be it as a child,a sibling,a daughter,a mother, a spouse ,a granny or just a companion or co-worker at the work-station.
I am not being pessimistic nor castigating the ilk of chauvnists who persistently look down upon womenfolk.It is high time the ebb turned a full wave and Women are truly permitted to bask in the glory they deserve and seem to seek [albeit through the activist groups that have been espousing equal rights campaigns].
It is not a centenary of celebration of womanhood as an annual tribute nor is it a paen of praise for the motherhood of al mankind which prompts yours truly to put things in perspective after witnessing all the hullabulla of 14-years in the Indian Parliamentary corridors.
Fourteen years was the span of the great Mahabharata war.It is also the time-period of epoch-making Rama’s exile and trysts with demonic forces.While analysing the fracas and histronics put up in the august upper house of the country ,it is but essential to observe that not one of those macho men who seemingy want to be credited with the ‘passage’ of the bill for 33% quota of women[The bill seeks to reserve for women 181 of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha and 1,370 out of a total of 4,109 seats in the 28 State Assemblies]has ever debated nor spoken up for the cause of the poor womenfolk who get ‘fined’ under the SITA[Suppression of Immoral Trafficking in Women Act]or for those who brides who got burnt for ‘dowry’ nor of those pityiably hapless women who get moested in public viewing on charges of black-magicand sorcery].Not one has the moral courage to vacate his seat in the legisature and offer it to a servant-maid of a neighbour or the washer-woman of the village,either!
It ought to be viewed in its true picture.Constitution of India provides for a bill proposing such an amendment to be passed by a 2/3rd majority also in the lower house[Lok Sabha]when it is piloted in the other house and ‘passed’,as was the case yesterday.
Watching the charade and parade of several vested interests and chauvunistic elements occupying important seats of ‘power’,it is wel nigh impossible to have the law reach the statue books after ultimate Presidential approval,eventually.There is many a slip between the cup and the lip - as every housewife and girl-chid in the nation knows.
What is the meaning of such an imaginary reservation for women when compared with the actual census-figures of female population in the vastly over-populated nation?
This alone will hold the key to all remedial laws in our democracy.How ese would one explain the false bravado being exhibited by those claiming credit for the show in the Rajya Sabha as also the exhibitionist showmanship of those who had to be bodiy lifted out of the upper house ?

India has a great tag of being a nation of ‘givers’.
Philosophy of life revolves since centuries around the acts of philanthropy and caring for mankind.
History is replete with instances of ‘giving’ turning out to be ‘grieving’.
How?
The moghul invaders were offered hospitality but they used the sword to overpower and plunder the riches.
When the English traders were welcomed ,their interest in commercialization of the natives got the better of their initial taste for spices and condiments alone, they enslaved a whole sub-continent.
Out-sourcing is the name of the game with contemporary mercenaries of mankind.
Our youth give their ‘all’ literally to the foreigner ‘masters’ and in lieu of few green dollar-bills ,they work their guts out during nights and catch up on few winks during waking hours …
Giving is a fine art indeed. I for one was brought up on such ancient ideas as to partake of your meal with guests and strangers too before attending to thy own self. In course of real-time life experiences in practice as a ‘generous’ and ‘blind’-giver,I discovered the stupidity of it all. Giving ought not to be ‘blind’ nor ‘automatic’.
Give by all means .Be philanthropic certainly but all within bounds and measures .Measure the need and requirement of the asker ,so to speak.
Only such a ‘donation’ or ‘act of giving’ would count and be purposeful as would indeed enable the receiver .Not every gift or act of giving will reach the balance-sheet of God or man. Rest assured that giving is the mark of a human-being. Compassion is the sole attribute which makes a man humane. Kindness must not be misread nor misconstrued as cleansing one’s own sins or commissions and omissions in leading the lifestyle of one’s choice .
Giving must therefore be the exercise of discretionary power which determines the intelligence of the giver as well as the utility of the recipient’s efforts at enhancing the lifestyle of the society in general or of a definite segment ,in the least.

A CAGED MAN...!!!
A free bird ,a free mind and the sunset of life shall be a happy combination for a story-teller.Not so this evening when one recalls the callousness with which martyrs are forgotten whereas deserters of homestead seem to be eulogized,for nothing…err,it is erroneous to thing it is all much ado about nothing .
Beg your pardon? Yes, smuggling of art and artefacts are frowned upon by laws of a civilized world.Money-laundering techniques include works of art being sold,undersold,oversold,insured and re-touched so to speak.
Am I touching a raw chord? No,it is a fact of life that whereas Salman’bhai’ was netted by the mullahs of religiosity for his seemingly uncharitable remarks, the old man by the sea who was a client in good old Hyderabad[his house was sought to be converted to an art museum post-gaja gamini episodes]seems to enjoy the full support of a tiny land of hefty commission-agents and brokers of oily deals[no pun meant,all straight-faced submissions friends!]…
Why then must the other desi old man by the Arabian Sea [again an uncanny resemblance of study in contrasting rise and eclipsing ,respectively]cry foul for a fallen man ?If in fact the one crying hoarse about being crucified by a section of politicos and busybodies in the world’s greatest secular land is indeed a patriot , would not he have gracefully ‘turned down’ the offer of citizenship by an alien land in which he was residing [no mere refugee]and returned to the lavish bungalow in Banjara Hills ,for instance?
Or is it a timely wake-up call for us all compatriots of a proud nation that it is high time to make an ‘open offer’ that whosoever[I mean all who have /are harbouring a secret desire]seeks to embrace another nationality [be it of the Middle East or of South East Asia or elsewhere]may please be welcomed to make an exit with all their mortal assets forthwith?
It will certainly help restore the greatness of a noble ,ancient civilization as Bharat’s and lessen the burden of population upon statistics [incl.productivity figures and per capita income]besides,making it a more enjoyable land for both the Natives as well as the ones who feel estranged after partition of the Indian sub-continent…

Am I touching a raw chord? No,it is a fact of life that whereas Salman’bhai’ was netted by the mullahs of religiosity for his seemingly uncharitable remarks, the old man by the sea who was a client in good old Hyderabad[his house was sought to be converted to an art museum post-gaja gamini episodes]seems to enjoy the full support of a tiny land of hefty commission-agents and brokers of oily deals[no pun meant,all straight-faced submissions friends!]…
Why then must the other desi old man by the Arabian Sea [again an uncanny resemblance of study in contrasting rise and eclipsing ,respectively]cry foul for a fallen man ?If in fact the one crying hoarse about being crucified by a section of politicos and busybodies in the world’s greatest secular land is indeed a patriot , would not he have gracefully ‘turned down’ the offer of citizenship by an alien land in which he was residing [no mere refugee]and returned to the lavish bungalow in Banjara Hills ,for instance?
Or is it a timely wake-up call for us all compatriots of a proud nation that it is high time to make an ‘open offer’ that whosoever[I mean all who have /are harbouring a secret desire]seeks to embrace another nationality [be it of the Middle East or of South East Asia or elsewhere]may please be welcomed to make an exit with all their mortal assets forthwith?
It will certainly help restore the greatness of a noble ,ancient civilization as Bharat’s and lessen the burden of population upon statistics [incl.productivity figures and per capita income]besides,making it a more enjoyable land for both the Natives as well as the ones who feel estranged after partition of the Indian sub-continent…

STATE OF TIGERS…!!!
I was reminded of a personal tryst with a white cheetah when I received a sms from a friend that they were at a tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan but they weren’t ‘lucky’ to spot a tiger on two whole days of safaris but that they did see hear a ‘leopard’ near their hotel - out in the bushes .
I was equally drawn to the chain of memories on reading the news-item just a while ago of the alarm raised in the Guwahati Zoo yesterday when a eight-year old tigress [one who tasted human-blood three years ago]walked out of her caged enclosure ,alongwith a one and a half year old cub .Fortunately ,for the ten thousand odd people present in the zoo-campus,both the mother and child were tranquillized and caged back in a space of two hours.
It was not the case with another tiger in another part of the country yesterday [in Bhiwani Zoo of Haryana State]when a tiger mauled a zoo employee who had forgotten to lock the cage after keeping meat for the big cat.
It was a full moon night when yours truly was returning by a Maruti Van from a meeting in a palace built in the midst of the Adilabad jungles of Andhra Pradesh State [through Naxalist-infested dense forest-land]after visiting a Member of Parliament whose teak-forest property was the subject of my discussions that evening,alongwith my client who had done his bit of real-time shikar prior to independence of India,i.e;during the British Raj era.
Predictably,I was excited having grown up on Mulk Raj Anad’s and Jim Corbett’s tales of tigers in Indian jungles.But ,little did I realize that God and Nature had a pleasant surprise in store for us.As we sped steadily on the thin ribbon-like road to cross the den of extremist-elements[they would take to a lawyer as does a man-eating tiger to flesh of humans]asap.
All on a sudden ,we saw a circle of a band of the dreaded people holding their meeting at midnight in the midst of the jungle but the vehicle gave us our speed [Besides, our host I suspect had a role in signalling our safe passage as being 'friends,not foes']and as we were nearing the highway in a hundred kilometres distance ,I saw something shining and white glowing in the beautiful moonlight and I asked my client on the wheels to slow down .He did but did not stop.After a couple of minutes, I was struck [so was he and the burly Nawab sitting in the backseat and puffing away on his cherrot!]by the dazzling beauty of the white striped feline sitting majestically - in the centre of the road,commandingly .
I goaded my friend to halt but the otherwise brave paan-chewing man turned the vehicle away into a dirt-path in the forest and we took a detour of about ten minutes to cross about ten kilometres of distance and then joined the highway-track.But again,lo and behold,our White Friend was up there sitting ahead on the road as if commanding us to halt and shake his paws…!I was both foolhardy as well as seized by a sense of bravado or mesmerized fantastic rush of blood and asked the van to be halted but again my travel companion turned the vehicle and sped us away in another narrow direction…
His explanation was that the jaguar is the fastest animal on the planet and if iot came dashing through the windshield,neither the vehicle nor the occupants will survive the crash!I could recall the sign-posts of kangaroo-tracks of the Australian landscape or those of great black bears in North Carolinan territory…!
A little ahead we saw villagers sleeping on cots out in the open of an otherwise pleasant summer night ,alongside cows and buffaloes…!!
Imagine how beastly human-beings and an almost human-like beast transformed my outlook towards life on earth and the state of our society…~!!

Winter of Discontent.
It certainly has been a bitter month of a cruel winter last month in our country .While it is nothing new in forein lands to face such climes of extreme cold temperatures and dense foggy conditions, the weather in India has been a shocker of sorts.It certainly took the wind out of the sails.All of us travelling whether by air or by train-routes had to suffer the spine-chilly taste of the chilly weather .
Yours truly for instance was always eager to take the 11-day long journey on the world's longest rail-route in Russia but one long journey from Allahabad to the national capital spanning the time-zone of twenty-six hours made the T20 cricketing format seem as dreary as a five-day long test-match .Unbelievably,unwittingly,unexpectedly the arduous journey enabled me to taste the 'fun' of the longest day and the longest night of the year pass as a combined unsavoury treat.
No more do I visualize the spectacle of being stranded at 'Dakshin Gangotri'[the Indian base-camp in Antarctica ] - which is much more down below our Down Under -land ,Australia.
Three cheers however to the wintry season one has been able to find good use for the overflowing winter coats ,the mufflers and the woolen cardigans on home ground .
I say 'No thank ,you Sir' to Santa's offer of a ride on his wondrous vehicle [snow-mobile?].
Be mobile on one's mobile-phone rather than move across the earth in such rough and tough conditions and climes.
I shudder to think of Mother Earth's agonizing plight at the way it has all come about .What use Copenhagen summits and Inter-governmental Glacier Conferences ?

Chinese have an universal presence today ,sixty long and tough years after their Nation was formed.They have a very unique lifestyle ;their philosophy is very teasing at times for simpler minds or less evolved diplomats ,around the World...China is a Superforce in almost every sphere of Life today - be it agrarian community centres ;industrial factory workers' groups;writers' guilds;policing an overtly hardline-communist system of Governance ,at both micro and macro-levels of economy ...!!
Made in China sounds as magical as Made in USA was once upon a time [not many decades ago].Made by China is the pride of every country-bumpkin living behind the Great China Wall.To the uninformed ,it is as much a wonder to see China thrive in an almost wholly-democratic,socialist,republican World as it is to marvel at the time-tested Great Wall of China...!!
What then is the essence of all things Chinese ?Be it a Ming-dynasty vase-model or be it the dirt-cheap consumer goods,industrial products or such other items of everyday life which one finds flooding the Economies of the Global-marketplace [be it in the streets of China Bazaars one find in every town and village in India or from the neatly lined beach-lanes on the Californian beach in the USA],Made in China has become a label for 'good bargain buys' as also 'sensible' purchases in a recession-ridden World...!!
When Mao declared - ..'give me a band of twelve dedicated followers and I shall form a Government',and when he did indeed take over the reigns of such a State in Mainland China ,he not only spelled a newer School of Management Thought or a Style of Public Governance but he lent new weight , force and support to the terms - 'Communism','Mass','Labour' and so on...!!
China is as much as force to be reckoned with in a contemporary scenario as is America itself ...No Foreign Policy nor Economic Theory can be wholesome today unless it incorporates a stand-by plan or an emergency programme to counter any sudden thrust or withdrawal of a Chinese partner from either an Investment Consortium or even a simplistic model of tacit support to terrorist elements or subversive forces who are out to sabotage the models of Democracy -be it in the Indian sub-continent or on the so-called Mafia sector operating in even the most advanced nations [including the USA]...China has the singular distinction of quelling the infamous Student rebellion at Tianamenn Square in Beijing by sheer brute force of mass-killings and yet remaining the veto-power on the UN Security Council .Go to Africa and you notice every other major infrastructure contract bagged by the Chinese firms ...Go to Universal Studios and any other major Wall-street operating Banking/Financial Institution or business Conglomerate and lo and behold ,you shall encounter not a Jap,Not a German ,Not an Yankee Genius but the Chinese Nationality...!!
How Chinese are the Chinese themselves ?Say Cheese ,Say Chinese ,Say Siamese - these are all the same - for such is the gross ignorance of the outside world to a native Chinese peasant .But , go elsewhere beyond the frontiers of the Great Wall of China [not Shanghai or Hong Kong alone],and you can realize the gross reality of the Chinese Mindset hitting you below the belt ...Where things go awry those caught in the act are often blamed but there is yet to be one instance where Chinese transgressions of their own superb ancient civilizations can even be referred to the Chinese Supreme Presidium for either discussion or confrontation...how come China/
Chinese Checkers is the game to fall back upon to understand the snake and ladder game of diplomacy or the big fish eat small fish syndrome of theirs in the business-world of today.No holds barred games wuld seemingly endow the exalted status of a haloed hero upon the crookedest of oppressors.So, lesser said the better .
CHINAis the force to watch out ,Uncle Sam !!Big Brother USSR has been decimated but unless and until Democracy reigns in China,Democracy in its truest sense cannot prevail the world over.It requires great ,far,deepest insight and maximum social security to oppose the mysterious Governance-secrets of the most secretly run Government of the modern World.

The ubiquitous picture of the Mahatma smiling away in a toothless,grin personifies his remaining a mute witness to the turn of History after all those relentless years of fasting,Satyagraha,arrests,speeches,writings,round table conferences,killings,massacres,genocide,hangings,patriotic streaks ,generations of silent rebellion against slavery,plundering,lootings,subjugation,discrimination,racism,et all...!!
The face of the Father of the largest Democracy of the world stares out smiling from the postage stamps, the hoardings, the election manifestos,the street corners and even in front of Assembly buildings ,the Parliament and the Supreme Court's edifices ...!!
The name of the Mahatma is sought to be invoked at the drop of a hat ever since we attained independence and a self-rule [as is branded by the patriots ]to be determined by adult suffrage and the ballot-box...!!
The truth however belies the hope which is radiated from the smiling Mahatma's image : not a day passes without the newscasts and television broadcasters highlighting all the evil deeds and obnoxious acts being perpetrated by all and sundry ,across the length and breadth of the country .Day in and day out , the acts of barbarism,blasphemy and betrayal of all the ideals and principles which the great man lived for and preached through action and by example are repeated...All is ominously bleak and bloody in nature...!!
The Mahatma became one by facing up to the challenges posed by the testing times .Racism teased the Barrister on alien soil and so the learned soul in him was kindled to return to homeland and write out a script which may certainly be declared to be the curtain-raiser for the U.S.Patriot Act that came to the law-books much,much later [in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack on American soil by modern-day terrorists]...He rose to the occasion by practising Religion and not merely remaining either a silent sufferer or a mute spectator or one of those many versions [and variations]of Prophets and Messaiahs of Mankind ...From ' Mr.' M.K.Gandhi,he rose to become the 'Mahatma' Gandhi himself.It takes huge stamina,grit ,determination ,strength and valour in order to take up one's fight to the streets and let it spread around the world , scaling heights of the House of Lords and fathoming high Seas ,across a century and half of strife,labour and struggle - especially , when it was a modus operandi which adopted the teachings of a 'dead' religion [viz;Hinduism]and involved such unheard of and untested ways such as non-violence, abstinence from vices or Satyagraha or fasting for long periods ...Inactivity and mass strikes did not result in inertia but propelled the momentum of the mass movement itself ...The force was from within ...There was no need for support by external agencies such as a modern-day Mossad or a CIA or an ISI or the RAW either...No G-9 nor G-20 was there nor an UNO present to have strengthened the Cause of one Man - The Mahatma Gandhi...!!
The life and times of Mahatma are exemplary indeed - of one greater truism that Religion is not meant to be merely preached or propounded by ought to be practiced . His teachings reflected the teachings essentially of the Bhagwat Gita [which was taught to him by his elder peer,Acharya Vinobha Bhave whilst at Paunar Ashram]-the do thy duty and leave the fruits to me -doctrine enunciated in the Words of the Lord Srikrishna with his ultimate concluding poser to Arjuna [representative of all of Mankind]-'Ask thyself,WHO AM I?' is the summation of Hinduism....The singular Victory attributed to the Mahatma in carving out Free Nations [had he not conceded for the partition of India into different new-States,Pakistan nor Bangladesh ,in particular would have ever been born on the world-map]is testimony of the fact that Hinduism is not a dead Religion but a live, throbbing force to reckon with - by the true practitioner ...Not to be mistaken or confused with the ritualistic observances or mechanical motions of rites and prayers performed by several claimants professing to practice this ancient form of Religion...!!

THE FEAR FACTORY...!!!
I was feeling elated when on the spur of the moment's exhiliration at receiving a call from a friend ,I gave directions for performing a pooja Worshipping GOODESS MOTHER SUPREME during this Navarathri Festival.
I was further strengthened in my satisfaction at being an unwitting 'do-gooder' when the lady informed me of feeling 'great' within three days of the observance of the systematic pooja[Hinduism as is the case with any other ancient Religion is repllete with rituals invoking the Grace of Mighty Nature ].I just said 'keep going friend'...!!
I was bewildered to read a 'low' text-message from her the very next day saying that she is being accused of indulging in 'Witchcraft' and the like - by no other than her in-laws [who all reside in the very same household]...I however being firm in my convictions regarding the beneficial effects of the Religious festivities [out of sheer experience] told her to carry on undaunted ...But as things go in this mundane and unfair world , she got me to prevail upon her to continue with her poojas by removing lemon-garland and camphor -garland ...That was the least compromise one could do under the circumstances I felt...!!
I was further appalled to learn the next day that a woman whom this devotee had invited home to receive a saree alongwith 'prasadam' had in fact spread the rumour through none lesser than this good lady-devotee's mother-in-law...!!
I received a call from this lady yesterday declaring that 'Goddess is great...'!!!
Reason d entre?
It was that the very wicked woman whjo had spread that wild and malicious rumour had been facing irate neighbours for having allegedly thrown some sort of 'burial-ground eerioe material' outside their garage [or some such thing]...her husband had come rushing to this dear lady friend's house and poured out his sob-story to her ...net result is that this particular ma-in-law has begun to accept the daughter-in-law stepping down to the prayer-room and continuing with her devotional act of breaking a coconut ,etc, to appease THE MOTHER GODDESS in true Hinduism-style...!!
MORAL ?
FAITH cannot be enforced nor devotion be instilled by fear , favour or sycophancy ,folks...GOD IS ALMIGHTY ...GODDESS shall not permit any harm to come in the way of her trusting child...Ask any mother in the human flesh and pat would come the affirmation...!!

NAVARATRI :NINE FACES OF A MOTHER ...!!
I am pleasantly surprised to receive a few mails from quite a few discerning ['non-Hindu'] Friends from across the world outside India seeking guidance on the way and manner of celebrating Dasshera [or as it also called ,NAVARATHRI ]Festival ,one of the foremost Festivals of the sub-continent [and in recent decades,of those living abroad too]...!!
I was reminded that I last wrote of this wondrous topic last year on Vijayadasami Day [The Day Of Victory of Good Over The Evil One].Even as I was feeling good ,I was struck by the friendly 'accusation' that it wasn't informed in advance to facilitate adequate preparation of Mind as well as Body in going about the Celebrations...I decided I must make amends by focussing on the Avatar [Form ] in which the Divine Mother of the Whole Universe should be worshipped during the ten-day long Festival of Humanity ...!!
Here We Go...I beg your pardon for being unwilling to go into the actual ritual,procedural formalities but shall certainly be delighted to seek to throw light humbly on such a singularly [hotly-debated order by Scholars in the know - from times immemorial]...I am nevertheless going into the actual FORMS and SIGNIFICANCE OF FORMATION OF WORSHIPPING THE DIVINE MOTHER GODDESS IN HER RESPECTIVE AVATARS[' ROOPAS ' OR 'FORMS']...!!

LIGHT THE FLAME...!!!
Teachers are taught throughout their teaching lives to unlearn their learning as well as re-learn all that they seek to teach to the 'taught' pupils ...Whatever be the stream ,whichever be the stage of education ,the Teachers find that Education is a continuously continuing continuous process ...I for one have always been privileged to be taught 'well' by teachers throughout my Academic career and to be regarded in high esteem by all those I impart my 'teachings'...One's best teachers of course are one's parents [in the formative years ,especially] as in my instance and then as one steps into the wide real world outside , it is the World itself which teaches the entrant of the 'harsh','bitter' realities of the true and unfair-seeming universal ways of thoughts, life and styles which prevail outside and away from one's home domain ...!!
As one grows wiser in life with the passage of Time , one discovers that the World is itself the best teacher of all while Life itself becomes the real Workshop of learning-processes...To ones whose Mind evolves fairly ahead of others,GOD ALMIGHTY is the Master Teacher indeed...I attest to this testimony of Mankind...!!
Child they say is the father of Man but I would say that the Father [and the Mother]of a Child is indeed the one who ought to behave as the Father and Teacher of the child rather than follow the trend of most unwitting folk in recent times to be led and swayed by the fanciful whims and fanciful notions of the 'unlearned' innocent [and often ignorant] child 's demands - indeed,wild demands invariably lead to perilous results...!!
I would however step a plane higher and submit that one's bestest and constantly concerned Teacher is one's own Self .Irrespective of what is one's orientation ,bearings and 'take' on Life as well as the goals ought to be accomplished in a lifetime,each and every one of us sane,sensible and thinking minds should introspect ,think ,evaluate as well as analyze the role,responsibilities and duties of Oneself towards different relationships in the World we live in and lead an ever Happy, Humble and Fruitful life filled with Learning and Luminosity .Only such an endeavour would make our sojourn meaningful and human.Or else, we are as anonymous in our existence as the fruitfly or the cactus plant in the wild desertland...!1

ORDER,ORDER,ORDER...!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a childhood fantasy once upon a time for every mother to sing the lullaby of the beautiful moon being beckoned to hush her child to a sweet,sleep...Likewise, she would goad the child to study the three R-s diligently so that he may don the mantle of a judgeship in the society on growing up .In contrast , the fear of the 'friendly,pot-bellied,neighbourhood' policeman coming to grab him and lock him up would be driven to instill a sense of 'fear' in the mischievous brat...aah,those were indeed fairy-tale days of our own world it seems ...!!
...Especially when one reads of cops molesting girls roaming about in public parks and of cops being exposed as being on the pay-roll of the mafiaso - desi versions though it be...What is even more perplexing and preposterous is the current controversy dug up by the supposedly High Office of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of INDIA being dragged to a verbal duel by one of his 'own' subordinate judges doing duty in another part of the Nation on the bounden duty or otherwise of the Judges to declare their assets to become data faling under the Public domain...!!
Of late ,it has become fashonable for so-called social activists and learned ,aware and busybodies in the society to call upon all public servants ,officials and others holding key portifolios to declare their respective 'personal'-assets .Whilst the demand persists for making it a mandatory act on part of the judges of the different High Courts and Hon'ble Supreme Court of India to make their assets public ,the Union Government has chosen to leave the issue to the better wisdom of the Judiciary .And, the Chief Justice of INDIA has gone on record saying that it is upto the concerned Judges to file their personal-assets declarations to the concerned Chief Justice whereas those in the Hon'ble Supreme Court shall so do it to the serving Chief Justice of India ....!1
Fairly acceptable but out crys one from the elite group of the judges who as a singular cry in the wild protested the 'power' of the C.J.I. to so announce .And, it ought to have rested there but pat comes a rejoinder from the incumbent C.J.I. reiterating that the Judiciary is a 'big institution' and no one judge's remarks can bring any kind of embarrasment to the Judiciary...!!
True, the embarrassment is felt by us all humble WE,THE PEOPLE who until now held the sanctimoious office of a Judgeship in very high esteem and the 'Institution' itself seemed to be a 'Temple of Justice' never to let any one of its flock err from the path of conservativeism,righteousness and virtuosity ...But then,all men are men , isn't it folks ?
Part of one's life as a Judge perpetually trying is the traditional culture of education in which even the slightest deviation from norms is considered sinful...!!
Crying 'wolf ' often doesn't help either the illiterate shepherd-boy in the fable nor these elite of the enlightened ,modern,evolved society either ...Hence, an oath of 'no utterances to be made on any controversial subject of public importance which would have wide ranging ramifications and ipact in an unequal society ' should be administered to those desirous of donning the posts of respectability and judgeship .Besides, 'once a judge ,always a judge' - policy may be adopted in or country too to ensure 'disciplining' of the human-beings who 'rise' to such exalted positions of pelf,power and pride...!!
Silence of the lambs is more welcome a sound than the snoring of the bullocks in the grazing-fields of a modern world,I dare say .Would you concur?

MAN-OF-CHANGE?
Truly,the turn of this century has been a watershed in American History ,Politics and Societal-relationships with the Rest of the World ...What with Osama Bin Laden,the Outlaw,terrorizing the World with a brutal-attack in the centers of World-Power on that fateful September 11th morning in the USA...What with USA launching its frontal attack on Iraq led by the hung Saddam Hussein on that eventful March 18th noon...What with Hillary Clinton conceeding her desires to the front-ranker,Brack Obama and her spouse,the former President of two terms,Bill Clinton strongly voicing his recommendation of the candidature of Obama...What with the inefficiency of the incumbent-in-office being rudely exposed to the World at he Collapse of Financial Giant-houses of Economic-power this mid-September...What with the levels of mud-slinging hitting rock-bottom to the lowly statures of a lipstick and a pig,the real yearning for 'A CHANGE NOW' has been vociferously spelt out by everybody and every Body of Poll-Campaign concerning the two Candidates symbolized by the Elephant and the Donkey ,in almost inhuman -tongue and animal-speak,so to speak...!!!
'CHANGE'they sought ; 'CHANGE' they said ; 'CHANGE' they did the face of the .Mr.President who will reside in the White House and rule the World as a demi-God...But,what exactly would this 'CHANGE' mean and imply to those who helped bring about this 'change' by out-voting those who voted to 'not to let the party in power change seats'...?And,Who actually outnumbered the votes seeking the 'CHANGE'...? Does this choice by the Ballot for a 'change' truly bring about the 'CHANGE' desired by these 'supporters-of-change'?What indeed is the meaning and substance of the demand for 'CHANGE' ,within the boundaries of those who cast the vote and the billions of those who without having the opportunity to cast their vote [being NON-AMERICANS,i.e; 'the Rest-of-the-World' ]have the premonition of a 'CHANGE' sweeping their regions too by this impending change in the Face of the President of USA...?Whither the 'CHANGE'?Who will facilitate the 'CHANGE'?...
- THESE ARE THE MOOT QUESTIONS POSED BY THE EXPECTED VERDICT OF THE USA-ELECTION RESULT :may I proceed to pose a few to the rallyists at Grand Park this evening (in sheer humility and meek ignorance ,and not out of any rancour-imagined or latently present in Mainland America)...?
What is the take of Mr.President-in-Waiting on the following issues:-
1. Will USA yet require an agenda to erase the 'Big-Brother'-attitude displayed
(as in Iraq and elsewhere,best known to all affected-parties/countries?
2. Will USA be a Government'of the people for the people by the people'and will he
really induct Able Advisers/Secreatries/Officials from the 'rival'-party?
3. Will USA continue to be the biggest 'defaulter' in its grants and 'subscriptions'
to United Nations Organization's Bodies such as the UNESCO and the UNICEF?
4. Will the USA still regard China as an equal and hold it in respectful distance of
Democracy and continue to turn a Nelson's Eye to China's Infringement of Inter
natinal Treaties,Pacts [including Nuclear - Energy ]?
5. Will the USA continue to decry 'outsourcing' business-activities to India while
all the while thriving upon qualitative and cheaper labour from there?
6. Will the USA continue to permit 'market-forces' to sabotage and hold the whole
Econmic Jaggernaut to ransom or evolve a 'fool-proof Policy'?
7. Will the USA abandon its 'Non-alignment' strategy on the Oil and Islamic-Nation
demands of the fanatics or would the 'tolerant'-attitude bandied about (of late)
seek to increase the temerity of the termites called 'terrorists'and embolden
them to wage babaric wars at truly 'helpless' Democracies like India and
America?
8. Will the USA emerge as the ultimate silencer of the wolves or become a 'reason'
for the wicked wolves to slaughter humanbeings like lambs or go about acting as
ruthless butchers of the Security and Happiness sought in a Democracy ?
9. Will the USA continue to permit long-time allies in Democracy [such as India ]
to be allowing its had-working people living in denial ?
10.Will the USA continue to deny the role of 'a foreign hand' in all world-events?
11.Will the USA now truly 'change' the attitude and acceptance-factor of the
apparently over-flooded non-native Americans towards the 'CHANGE' itself or will
the neo-American flag-bearers ,[out of a gross lack of Experience and a Vision in
dealing with such matters which not merely affect the USA but all other
inhabitants of the Planet]act at cross-purposes to make it a lame-duck Government
and worsen the plight of the suffering-World outside th shores of USA [ and US

1. Will USA yet require an agenda to erase the 'Big-Brother'-attitude displayed
(as in Iraq and elsewhere,best known to all affected-parties/countries?
2. Will USA be a Government'of the people for the people by the people'and will he
really induct Able Advisers/Secreatries/Officials from the 'rival'-party?
3. Will USA continue to be the biggest 'defaulter' in its grants and 'subscriptions'
to United Nations Organization's Bodies such as the UNESCO and the UNICEF?
4. Will the USA still regard China as an equal and hold it in respectful distance of
Democracy and continue to turn a Nelson's Eye to China's Infringement of Inter
natinal Treaties,Pacts [including Nuclear - Energy ]?
5. Will the USA continue to decry 'outsourcing' business-activities to India while
all the while thriving upon qualitative and cheaper labour from there?
6. Will the USA continue to permit 'market-forces' to sabotage and hold the whole
Econmic Jaggernaut to ransom or evolve a 'fool-proof Policy'?
7. Will the USA abandon its 'Non-alignment' strategy on the Oil and Islamic-Nation
demands of the fanatics or would the 'tolerant'-attitude bandied about (of late)

MAY THE LOTUS BLOOM NOW !
The National meeting of the BJP(the Bharateeya Janatha Party)going on at Bengalooru seeks to become a repeat enactment of sessions of the past decades - a real risk of it being relegated to another 'political fiefdom' of the chosen few UNLESS it lets the real workers , organizers and the millions committed to the philosophy of the Party-within and outside INDIA...
( As one who has assisted in matters of constitution,legislation,policy and current issues for a certain State Legislature Party and it's State Parliamentary Party ,I for one know that it has been the singularly dedicated and greatly appreciable Management Prowess of Mr.A.B.Vajpayee and Mr.L.K.Advani which had shot this 2-M.P.s party sitting as a minuscule entity to shoot up to wield the reins of the Central Government ,in most trying circumstances - they are two- of- a- mold,certainly good for all who are led by them and have been banking upon them to fulfill the incomplete ,unfinished and ignored tasks on the Agenda of the BJP ).
...Whereas those opposed to the rise of the stalwart politicians and those not conversant with the true colors of all political creatures in the great sub-continent brand the BJP to be a 'Hindu Right-Wing'-party , the facts speak otherwise ...(I am tempted to cite the instance of a certain Muslim youth leader who had brought a few 'paans' for an accompanying Leader had risen to become a Cabinet Minister and alongwith another such loudmouth who bandies to be the face of the BJP-sympathizers has been speaking out for voting the BJP to power , also among other things, to 'better-the-lot-of-the-Muslims' in the country ... ).....There are a plethora of cases where it is those hailing form the non-Hindu community who have benefited from the 'friendliness' and largesses meted out to the Muslim-population - those who have the 'reach' to the party's big-wigs...to the long-faces put up by those supposed staunch and die-hard followers of the party!)...
'RELIGION' has been the main-plank for the party to have been jettisoned to power in the first place : then,they seemed to have got lost in the labyrinth of powers what with several 'allies' working at cross-purposes to the best interests of the BJP as well as the National Government formed with their support (remember cries of -JAI SHRI RAAM' which to the illiterate ones did not mean the same as 'ALLAH-HO-AKBAR')...
So, thus came the need to harp their song of 'REGIONALISM' or 'smaller-States' which in fact and forever in a unique country such as ours shall be most suicidal and counter-productive to the Nation's Identity,Welfare and Interests too...(recall 'telengana'and similar cries of breakaway groupings who did not posseess the werewithall of moral and nationalist spirits to do their good for the region they sought to focus upon ,a la 'frogs-in-the-well'and of soured-grapes! )...
' NATIONALISM ' ought to be the single-point Agenda of the BJP from this day onwards and it can be rest assured of coming back to power ,not only at the Centre but also in any and almost every other State of the country which has elections in the offing : the need of the hour is not 'Appeasement' of the 'Minority' or the 'Disgruntled' but 'Unity' which alone is the paramount need of the hour :
( As the discerning mind would know the matters of Governance such as price-control,checking of inflation,controlling unemployment-rates are all impossible to be dealt with sitting in the Opposition-Benches of the August Houses of Parliament or by demonstrating on the streets : rather only a truly capable Team of the UNION COUNCIL OF MINISTERS with the determination to govern ,the ability to enforce governing Rules and effectively stay righteous can bring about the 'CHANGES' being sought by crying hoarse at a 'closed'-doors summit or to 'fodder-hungry hounds' and eager-beaver newbies of the Eminent Press Corps ...).
'NATIONALISM' IS THE SLOGAN FOR BJP to win the ensuing General Elections of INDIA.The need of the hour is a force which shall unite the country ,steer them to wipe away the animosity generated in minds of the generally illiterate and uninformed or semi-literate electorate of the plains, the hills, the valleys, the mountains, the cities, the villages, the nooks and corners of the vast single national border of the Himalayan Nation :

AN IDENTITY-CRISIS ...!!!
'AN IDENTITY-CRISIS' - it certainly is .There is no other apt explanation. Nor can there be a second opinion on it . You have to second my assessment of the ever re-surfacing merry-go-round that the 'locals vs. non-locals' tag takes ...Yes, the row seemingly created on the supposedly 'off-the-cuff' remark of an old-time actress par-excellence and also presently a sitting-member of the August House of Rajya Sabha from a northern state whilst being ordinarily resident in a western state - all of course located within the territorial-jurisdiction of the Republic of India (by definition, INDIA is a 'Sovereign,Socialist,Secular Republic : meaning that no alien /non-Indian can dare trespass into our great land nor seek to dare violate or transgress the laws of the country , excepting 'unless,otherwise occasioned',as it appears )...
But here arise certain 'BIG'-doubts in the minds of a Common-Politician (err, this is one who is a politician by virtue of succeeding somebody from the fore-father lineage of the family and who seeks to be counted as a commoner while bandying guns or running around with gun-toting gunmen ,the Personal Security-guards)...). . . which are these doubts?

1. What about those trying to foment trouble as well as disrupt law&order being residents/citizens/politicians living in this country and breathing it's air ;drinking its waters and feeding on it's home-grown food ?
2. What about the Indian Citizens living in the northernmost state of Jammu & Kashmir?
3. What about we poorer citizens who feel completely INDIAN and have never had the opportunity to live or learn the mother-tongue whilst being transferred across the length & breadth of the country belonging to the Category of the 'Central Government Family'?
4. What about those who having been born in the country post-independence era too are seeking to divide and sub-divide or partition their very 'home-state'?
5. What about the hard-working professional artistes/practitioners of Law,Medicine,Teaching,IT-related,HR-related fields who have settled in a certain part of the country as domiciled citizenry although born in another region of the great sub-continent ?
6. Why is Mr.L.K.Advani not branded an'outsider' by whoever called Ms.Sonia Gandhi an'alien' and a 'foreign-national'?
[ Are you aware that the own sibling(elder)of the former has been the Defence Adviser to the Neighboring warring country of Pakistan whereas the younger man rose up to be the Deputy Prime Minister of this great Democratic Nation.ON THE OTHER HAND IS the later , a lady who found her spouse in India and continued to lead an ever-thorny and perilous life here in India itself even after the sad and tragic assasination of her beloved husband ;has learnt the national-language and has spurned the all-hankerede Chair of the P.M.of INDIA? ].

Is it a dearth of genuinely-concerned and honest troupe of administrators or is it a bandwagon of maniacs bunching themselves by the power of the gun/ill-gotten wealth(such as in real-estate mafia deals;counterfeiting of currency for criminal-gangs across the borders;indulging in drug-peddling and corruption of the vulnerable minds of the impressionable mindsets and weaker habits of the Youth who comprise of the largset section of the wheels of the society- like it or not ?Is it a coterie of crooked elements appointing a loud-mouthed,unscrupulously bland-faced obese character as their spokesperson and anointing a few half-baked,raw -hand as the chosen presswallah /journalist /tv-channel to bandy about the supposed eligibility of every other guy or female who manages to give a few interviews and have the pictures splashed across the walls of your compound or inside the inner recesses of your mind's compartments?
10.What is ailing our own INTELLIGENTSIA(and the intelligence of the well-informed,sophisticated,learned minds gets eroded by domestic compulsions or inherent weaknesses of the character or the system's hostile-attitude)?
11. What is our 'NATIONAL CHARACTER' ?

We have a pledge ' we have a national anthem; we have a national-song;we have a Republic and A UNIQUE CONSTITUTION THAT IS BOTH SACRED AS WELL AS UNPARALLELED IN WORLD'S CONSTITUTIONAL HISTORY OR IN THE EVOLUTION OF WORLD LEGAL HISTORY - IN NO CIVILIZATION OR FORM OF GOVERNMENT OR STRUCTURE OF ADMINISTRATION can one co-habit with a neighbour who does not speak the same tongue; does not don the same garbs; does not eat the same grub; does not like the weather or mannerisms or slang / accent or colour of the skin of another - AND STILL BE a cohabitant ; a neighbour, a co-worker or even a servant of the master who belongs to the dissimilar community / caste/ set of habits :
